No matter how old you are now: 20, 40 or 70.  It is never too late to start a healthy lifestyle. However, to do this, you will have to give up some bad habits.

1. The love of fast food and semi-finished products
The less industrially processed food is in your daily diet (i.e. a finished or semi-finished), the better. Indeed, such products contain too much sodium, saturated fat, sugar and little fiber. Their consumption results in cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, cancer and diabetes.

The maximum permissible rate of sodium (it is ingested in the form of common salt) is only 2.3 grams per day. For the elderly and people suffering from certain chronic diseases, the rate is even less.

In fact, the average consumer receives about 3.3 grams of sodium with food per day. Various semi-finished products, delicatessen, bakery products and instant soups are abound with sodium.

Do your body a favor and eat well. Include foods rich in fiber in the diet, as they prolong life. Cook by yourself. If you do not have the time, cook in advance and with a reserve. In an extreme case, buy a ready-made salads or frozen vegetables. However, before you buy, you should learn the label. Remember that you should consume less salt and sugar.

2. Smoking
If you are a smoker, then you know how difficult it is to give up this bad habit. The main thing here is the motivation. Think about the fact that the use of tobacco is one of the most frequent causes of death. A smoking cessation is the easiest way to extend your life. If you stop smoking, your body will be able to restore. Blood pressure will quickly return to normal, and the risk of cancer decreases with each passing year. In addition, you will notice that you look younger. Furthermore, quitting smoking, you are helping not only yourself, but also your loved ones, because the second-hand smoking is no less dangerous.

3. Rejection of sports
Of course, you have no time for doing exercises. However, look at it from this point of view. Yes, the recommended rate is 30 minute session per day. Nevertheless, the Taiwanese, for example, devote only 15 minutes to exercises a day – and studies suggest that this minimum prolongs their life by an average of three years. Half an hour a day will bring you for four additional years. Exercises prolong life even for people with severe heart disease and obesity! One of the most simple and yet effective forms of physical activity can be a simple walking.

4. Fears and worries without actions
Integrity is a wonderful trait of character. Conscientious people are more likely to adhere to the scheduled plan of action when it comes to proper nutrition, exercise, performance of the doctor’s recommendations. If they decide to give up bad habits, they will stick to this decision to the end. However, do not confuse honesty with insanity. Do not be obsessed on your own health. It will not bring any benefit, except for the negative emotions, such as anger, irritability.

5. Selfishness and sociopathy
Social activity is one of the ways to extend your life. Communication helps you to control your emotions, reduce stress and even strengthen the immune system. Good relations with others make you stronger, but on the contrary, quarrels cause the depression and can lead to heart attacks. It can be difficult to maintain social ties if you are depressed, you lost a loved one, or live away from family and friends. However, you can always find new friends.

6. Wrong sleep regime
Your well-being depends on the amount and quality of sleep. Scientific research confirms that a lack of sleep (less than 6 hours per day), as well as an excess of it (more than 9 hours) can lead to premature death. Healthy sound sleep helps to cope with stress, depression, and supports normal heart function.

7. Constant stress
Just as anger, stress is bad for health and it shortens life significantly. Overcoming stress, you will improve your quality of life and its duration. Try to read a journal, meditate, learn to relax. Even a very brief meditation in the workplace can give your brain a mini-vacation.

8. Irritation and anger sloshing
Anger can be an emotional discharge, especially if you are sure that your anger is righteous. Is it worth it? Negative emotions lead to increased levels of cortisol – a stress hormone. The more it spills, the higher the level, and the worse it affects the heart, metabolism, immunity. In addition, many studies suggest that cortisol is directly related to premature death.
